RAM was founded as a professional male choir in 1944 by maestro Gustav Ernesaks. Since that time it has been the flagship of Estonian male choral music.

The Riga Technical University Male Choir “Gaudeamus”, conducted by Ivars Cinkuss, at the special concert in Riga on 23 October 2010 which promoted participation in the upcoming Tartu Festival.

In 2006, the Estonian Male Choirs Association in cooperation with the Nordisk Sangerforbund organized the first Nordic and Baltic Male Choir Festival in which male choirs from Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Latvia and Iceland participated. In addtion, boys’ and young men’s choirs from Estonia participated making a total of nearly 2,500 choral singers in the festival.
In order to maintain the continuity of the tradition of boys’ and mens’ choral singing in the Baltic Sea region, the Estonian Male Choirs Association in cooperation with the Nordisk Sangerforbund is organizing the Nordic and Baltic Mens Choir Festival from June 15-17, 2012. It is anticipated that 4,000 singers - men and boys - will participate in the festival.
